This course is designed for people who are interested in “Traditional Portrait Drawing” and
is suitable for beginner and those who have some techniques or who want to improve.

The style of this teaching will be step by step, from a foundation level of basic techniques
onto development of your skills to a more advanced level.

The types of portrait styles taught will range from a wide variety of techniques and methods such as:-
Drawing form life and photograph
Detailed, intensive drawing
Quick, “loose” drawing
Light/Shade drawing
Linear drawing and so on.

PROGRAMME

Welcome
Introduction to traditional portrait drawing
Introduction to materials and equipment used in portraiture.

Study 1:
How to start portrait drawing. Focus on proportion and shape of the face
Demonstration and practise with life model.

Study 2:
Form of the face. Here we focus on how we observe the face – its structure and characteristics
Demonstration and practise with life model

Study 3:
Anatomy of the face. We will get familiar with the muscles and the bones of the face by using an anatomical model.
Demonstration and drawing with life model

Study 4:
To look at the face from different angles and perspective.
Demonstration and practise.

Study 5:
Composition of portrait
Demonstration and practise with life model.

Study 6:
Light & Shadow. How to use light, shadow and different tones to build up the face.

Study 7:
Section of the face practise. How to draw the eyes, nose, mouth and ears
Demonstration and practise with life model

Study 8:
Continue to practise sections of the face, how to draw hair, cheeks and chin
Demonstration and practise with life model

Study 9:
Fast face line drawing
Demonstration and practise with life model

Study 10:
Finish final piece portrait drawing. Review all the techniques which you have learnt
